Attorney Bill Connor

William M. Connor V stands as a paragon of legal excellence and dedicated service. His background blends an impressive legal career with a distinguished military background to the rank of Colonel (with a career spanning various commands, including as senior US advisor to Helmand Province, Afghanistan). Bill was a runoff candidate for Lt. Governor of South Carolina in 2010, and in 2021 received the state’s highest award from SC Governor McMaster, the Order of the Palmetto. After only six years of legal practice (which included time deployed to combat), Bill was recognized by his peers as having the highest possible ranking ethical standards and competency, earning him the prestigious AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating by Martindale- Hubbell®. In 2021, Bill was elected by fellow Citadel Alumni to serve on the prestigious Citadel Board of Visitors. Bill has attained several seven figure resolutions for clients, including a multi- million dollar settlement in 2023 and over a million dollar resolution in 2024

Personal Background

William M. Connor V, commonly known as Bill Connor, is a devoted Christian family man, married to his wife, Susan, for over 33 years. Together, they have three children: Peyton, Brenna, and Will. Will, a Citadel grad, has followed his father’s steps becoming an Army officer, Brenna, a Clemson grad, recently graduated law school, and Peyton, a Newberry grad, is an author who lives in Ireland with her husband and Bill’s two grandsons. Bill enjoys travelling with his wife, particularly to see his grandsons in Ireland!

Honors and Recognition

Bill Connor has an illustrious military career spanning over three decades:

  • Regular Army Infantry Officer: Bill Connor joined the army in 1990 and served over a decade on active duty with command positions in Light Infantry and Rangers. After his Company Commands, Bill was chosen as Aide de Camp to the Commanding General of Ft. Benning, GA and taught at the Infantry Officers Career Course.
  • Colonel, USA, Retired: Commanded U.S. advisory efforts in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, was senior instructor for Command and General Staff Officer School in South Carolina, and was the senior Northern Commander Army officer representative in South Carolina. His combat service earned him the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and the Bronze Star Medal, among other decorations.

  • Former President: Rotary Club of Orangeburg
  • Former Chairman: Republican Party for the Sixth Congressional District
  • Board Member: Bill was elected to serve on the “Citadel Board of Visitors” on October 5th 2020 and was sworn in July 2021

  • 2010 Lieutenant Governor Race: Ran for Lt. Governor of South Carolina, advancing to the runoff election.
  • Chairman: National Security Task Force, South Carolina Floodwater Commission.
  • Senior U.S. Advisor to Helmand Province, Afghanistan (2007-2008): Played a crucial role in developing and implementing the U.S. advisory effort for Afghan National Security Forces.
  • Citadel Board of Visitors: Actively serving as a board member, contributing to the strategic direction and governance of The Citadel.
  • Rotary Leadership: Led the Rotary Club of Orangeburg, emphasizing community service and leadership.

Senior Paralegal: Douglas Thomas

Douglas Thomas spent three decades serving Orangeburg and nearby communities in the Orangeburg Post Office, including eight years charge over the Business Mail Entry Unit. Since then he has managed one of the Regional Medical Center’s cardiology offices, with three providers and nine support personnel.

His experiences and relationships built in this time have provided him with skills and knowledge of area services that support Bill Connor Law in serving clients in problem-solving and case settlement.

Shannon Swann: Legal Secretary

Shannon Swann is a native of St. Matthews, Shannon has spent 20 years in customer service roles in the Orangeburg and St. Matthews area culminating her appointment as Legal Secretary in the Bill Connor Law Firm in January 2023.
